Microsoft Surface Pro 9 2022 Specs and Features
Microsoft has equipped the 2022 Surface Pro 9 models with Alder Lake U 12th Gen Intel processors. The high-end models are powered by 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1255U processor while lower, less expensive variants have Core i5-1235U processor. Both these processors have 10-cores with 2 Performace-cores and 8 Efficient-cores, supporting a total of 12 threads. For graphics, both of these models have integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics GPU.
Microsoft is also launching a 5G Surface Pro 9 variant which is powered by Microsoft SQ 3 processor and has a Neural Processing Unit (NPU). This processor is made in partnership with Qualcomm Snapdragon. For graphics, the 5G Surface Pro 9 has Microsoft SQ 3 Adreno 8CX Gen 3 GPU.
Ram Memory
Surface Pro 9 is available to purchase with 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB ram memory options. It uses LPDDR5 RAM. The surface Pro 9 5G variant uses LPDDR4x RAM and is available with 8GB or 16GB ram options.
Storage Specs
Surface Pro 9 Intel variants come in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB SSD storage options while SQ3/5G variants can be bought in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB SSD options.
Display Specs
Both Surface Pro 9 (Intel/Wifi) and Surface Pro 9 (SQ 3/5G) variants have similar displays with a few changes. Microsoft has equipped these 2022 models with a 13-inch PixelSense Flow Display with a native resolution of 2880 X 1920 (267 PPI). Both models support dynamic refresh rates up to 120Hz offering a fluid UI and animations. It has a 3:2 aspect ratio screen with a 1200:1 contrast ratio. 10-point multi-touch is supported on both WiFi and 5G variants. The Intel variant has Auto Colour Management and Dolby Vision IQ supported which are not available on the 5G variant.
Battery Backup
According to the official benchmarks released by Microsoft, the Surface Pro 9 5G variant can get up to 19 hours of typical device usage and the Intel WiFi Surface Pro 9 can last up to 15.5 hours of typical device usage. In real-world usage, expect the battery to last a few hours less than the official figures.
Security Features
Surface Pro 9 (Intel/Wifi) is equipped with Firmware TPM 2.0 and supports Windows Hello face sign-in. The Surface Pro 9 (SQ 3/5G) on the other hand has Microsoft Pluton security and also supports Windows Hello face sign-in.
Camera Features
Both the 5G and WiFi models have identical front and rear cameras. The front camera is capable of 1080p full HD video recording while the rear 10MP camera supports 4K recording.
Input / Output Ports
Surface Pro 9 (Intel/Wifi) variants are equipped with 2 USB Type-C ports ( with USB 4.0/ Thunderbolt 4 support ), 1x Surface Connect port and a Surface Type Cover port. Surface Pro 9 (SQ 3/5G) variant has 2x USB-C 3.2 ports, a Surface Connect port, a Surface Keyboard port, and a nano SIM port for 5G connectivity.
Network and connectivity
The Intel WiFi models come with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.1 support. The 5G variant also supports WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.1, along with GPS, Glonass, Galileo, Beidou Support.
Stylus Pen and accessories compatibility
Both of these new 2022 Surface Pro 9 models support Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP). Surface Slim Pen 2 can be used on both. Surface Pro Signature Keyboard has an integrated storage space and wireless charging support for Surface Slim Pen 2. Other accessories supported are Surface Pro Keyboard, Surface Pro X Keyboard, and Surface Pro X Signature Keyboard.
Operating System
Naturally, the 5G Surface Pro 9 variant with SQ3 processor ships with Windows 11 Home on ARM operating system while the Intel variant has the regular Windows 11 Home OS. With the purchase, you are eligible for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate 30-day trial and Microsoft 365 Family 30-day trial. Both models come with preloaded Microsoft 365 Apps.
